Should You Play Slots Without Your Player's Card?

A casino player recently asked me: "Is it better to play slots without a player's card?"

The answer is no. Please stop doing that.

The card does not change your luck

Some players remove their card because they believe it affects slot bonuses or jackpots. It does not. Slot machines are designed to work with or without card systems, and the outcome of every spin is determined by a random number generator. The card system has no impact on the game itself.

The data does help the casino understand how to cater to you, but it will not change whether you hit a bonus or how much you are paid.

What you lose when the card is out

• Points and comps: most casinos award rewards based on the time and money you play while your card is inserted. Removing it creates a break in tracking, and you miss out on credit for that play.
• Cardholder promotions: bonuses for specific hours, or promotional jackpots, often require your card to be in the machine the entire time.
• Your rating: untracked play does not count toward your ADT, which drives your future offers.

Table players, this applies to you too

Use your player's card every time you really play. The only thing it changes is how much credit you get.
