Why Knowing Your ADT Is So Important

Ever wonder how casinos decide your offers, comps, and free cruises? It is not random. It is all based on your ADT (Average Daily Theoretical).

What ADT actually measures

Your ADT shows the casino how much you typically risk, or are expected to lose, each gaming day. The casino evaluates your play using three things:

• Your average bet
• Your time played
• The house edge of the game you are playing

Put together, this is your theoretical loss. The greater your expected loss, the greater your comps may be.

It does not matter whether you win or lose at the table. What matters is how much you theoretically should have lost, based on the math of the game.

Why it affects everything

Your ADT is the number that determines your value as a player, and it affects:

• How big your offers are
• What kind of cruise or hotel you can get comped
• Whether you get VIP perks or free play
• How well your host can negotiate better deals for you

Time in the casino beats a fast loss

Contrary to popular belief, the free play you are offered generally has little to do with how much money you win or lose. Casinos want to see that you are spending time with them.

If you walk into the casino and lose $1,000 in five minutes, you may get only $5 in free play next month.

Be patient, too. Free play is based on your previous playing history, and it can generally take two to three months for your offers to reflect your most recent play.

Play fewer, stronger days

• If you play small amounts on multiple days, your ADT goes down.
• If you play stronger on fewer days, your ADT goes up, and so do your offers.
